The Greenwood High School and
Grade School will ope Monday, Aug. 31st to begin the 1953 - 54 school year, it
has been announced by Principal Clifton Fonstad. School buses will operate on
the same routes as if the past unless students are notified otherwise. As most
eighth grad students registered last spring, there will be no special
registration before school opening. Students who are planning to attend
Greenwood High School for the first time, who did not have an opportunity to
visit school on Rural Day, may come to school and see Mr. Fonstad any weekday to
get registration information.
The faculty is complete with the exception
of one English teacher in the high school. Miss Shirley Cox has been hired to
teach homemaking and is the only new teacher on the faculty. Miss Cox is a
graduate of Stout Institute and has had two years' experience at Chetek before
coming to Greenwood. Other members of the faculty are: Cyril Buker, science and
athletic director; Robert Crase, veteran trainer; Mrs. Cynthia Einfeldt and
geography; Harold Haag, science; Mahlon G. Hamel, instrumental music; Thomas
Jackson, commercial; Lloyd Jostad, social science and vocal music; Miss Claire
Mastaler, English and girl's physical education; Paul Thompson, social science
and guidance; Victor Wagner, vocational agriculture; Mrs. Irene Rodgers, 7th and
8th grades; Mrs. Geneva Berrett, 5th and 6th grades; Mrs. Mercedes Liebzeit, 3rd
and 4th grades; and Mrs. Elvera Fravert, 1st and 2nd grades.
Much
redecorating has been done in the school this summer. All hallways have been
painted and the library and one high school classroom. The homemaking
department: foods laboratory is being remodeled and unity kitchen installed.
This work should be completed by the opening of school. The new homemaking
kitchen will have four new, modern kitchen units.
