Each year the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary selects two
outstanding juniors to participate in Badger State Council. The Badger State
week is divided into work sessions, committee meetins and discussion periods.
The representatives vote for candidates from their model towns, counties, and
state. Within one week, the Badger Girl and Boy learn more about the state
government and meet many other representatives from Wisconsin schools.
This year's Badger Girl is Janice Slowiak, She has been active in cheerleading,
G.A.A., Pep Club, Yearbook, Spanish Club and band. As a class officer, Janice
has demonstrated one of her best qualities, that of leadership.
Thorp's Badger Boy is Douglas Woodworth. Doug, also has been an outstanding
leader for the Junior class. He has participated in the Jr. Class play,
intramurals and golf. He is an explorer Scout and holds the degree of Eagle
Scout.
Both Janice and Doug are officers of the National Honor Society.
Their alternates are Barbara Haas and Gordy Hubbard.
