Szaflarski, Kenneth Peter (26 September 1960 - 14 May 2020)
Kenneth Szaflarski, age 59, of Marshfield, died Thursday, May 14, 2020 as the
result of a car accident.
Kenneth Peter Szaflarski was born on September 26, 1960 at St. Elizabeth’s
Hospital in Chicago, IL the son of Robert and Gwendolyn (Serafinowicz)
Szaflarski. They moved to Neillsville, in 1975 where Ken attended Neillsville
High School. He then went to work as an autobody technician for Gross Motors. On
October 25, 1980 he was united in marriage to Christine Smetak at the Calvary
Lutheran Church in Neillsville. He went to work at his father’s autobody shop,
Countryside Auto in 1985. Later, he moved to Marshfield and worked at Dick’s
Auto Body. Ken and Chrissy eventually divorced but remained good friends until
her death on September 28, 2018. Ken was currently working for Zoo Landscaping
in Marshfield.
He enjoyed collecting model trains, disc golf, campfires, listening to music and
hanging out with his grandson, Anthony or as Ken would say, “His Buster”
He is survived by a daughter, Lana (Aaron) Peterson of Marshfield, a son, Kenny
Szaflarski of Winnebago, a grandson, Anthony Peterson of Marshfield, his mother,
Gwen Szaflarski of Neillsville, a sister, Lynn (Tim) Brekke of Neillsville, a
nephew, Eric (Lindsey) Brekke of Smyrna, GA, three nieces, Brooke (Cole) Finch
of Lexington, SC, Anna (Nick May) Brekke of Neillsville, and Emily Brekke of
Neillsville, an aunt, Georgianna Taterka of Wood Dale, IL and his cat, Samantha.
He is preceded in death by a son, Chad, his father, Bob Szaflarski and his good
friend, Christine Smetak Szaflarski.
A Memorial service for Ken will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2020 at
the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Pastor Terry Marg will officiate.
Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from
10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Gesche Funeral Home.
